Windy Wednesday

Tuesday night, Jeremiah and Lexi wanted to sleep in their own tent. I was a little unsure what I thought of the idea, but Troy convinced me they would be fine. When we tucked them in the weather was nice and calm. When I climbed into my sleeping bag around 10:15, the wind was blowing, by 12:30am our tent was whipping all around from the wind gusts and I woke thinking me were getting blown away. Several times both Troy and I woke and checked to be sure the kids tent was still in place. Around 2:00am Jeremiah woke, scared from all the noise the wind on the tent was causing. Troy jumped up to move the kids and we told Jeremiah it was just really windy. He said, never mind he wanted to stay. We both wanted them to come sleep with us, but we had told them they could camp on their own so let them. It was a long night for us, as we worried and checked on them several times, but they made it all night!

We were up early and with the wind still whipping around like crazy, we decided not to stick around camp and get sand in our eyes.

So we got in the car and drove to some geocaches close by. This rock tunnel was a good place to hide from the wind.

There are some many cool spots in Moab and people have placed geocaches all over the area.

Troy and the kids holding up a HUGE rock.

You can go in some really fun places when you are short.

The goal is always to get to the top of the biggest rock in the area.

Miles was so worn out from exploring he could not even finish his snack.

Mad dash for the car after a find.

It was nice that we had something to do to keep the kids mines off the wind. We would drive a bit, hike a bit to a geocache, find it and run back to the safety of the car. We found 8 different "treasures" on Wednesday.

"I no like sand in my eyes." - Miles

At different times throughout the day, the sky was red from all the sand in the air.

But we still skipped the day away.

One adventure down a riverbed lead us to this swimming hole.

You don't find pools of water too often in the desert.

Late in the afternoon it started drizzling, but that didn't slow Miles down.

After hiking all day in the wind and rain, this in not how to want to find camp when you return, but the wind had finally died down and Troy was able to get the tent fixed pretty quickly.

The kids tent was down in the river bed and upside down. I wonder why the night before was the only night the kids wanted to sleep in their tent.

Each night we gave the kids glow sticks before tucking them to bed so they could play int he tent for a bit.

A beautiful end to a crazy but fun day.
